Part 2:

Q: What did you think about the coaching market in China?

A: I am amazed every time I go there. I think Chinese people are extremely open to change as well as pursuing personal growth. We will be running our NLP Coach Certification programs in Shanghai and Shenzhen this Fall. My greater vision is to bring Chinese people to the U.S to experience cross-cultural learning environment.

Q: Is it important for coaches to have a MBA degree, a Doctoral degree or many years of working experiences?

A: I don’t think so. Having 30 plus years of experiences may even get in the way of coaching. Imagine that you are in a car with your client. The coach is in the passenger seat and the client is the driver. The client knows where they want to go; your job as a coach is to keep them on track. Somebody with 20 or 30 years of experiences will be more likely to reach over and try to drive for the client, thinking they know better the right way to get there.

Q: My goal is to open a coaching facility that offers team building training and interpersonal skills training. What advice do you have for me?

A: Get certified through an ICF ACTP Coach Training Program and find a good mentor in the field who is doing what you want achieve. Hire a good coach and have your coach support you to work through your own challenges and roadblocks to success. I wouldn’t be where I am today without the help of some really great coaches. I believe that every good coach has a coach.

Q: Have you ever turned down a client?

A: Yes. Sometimes people are not ready to make changes for various reasons. They are not 100% invested. At this stage of my career I only want to work with people who want accelerated personal growth。

Q: Some people may think that coaching is just about theory. What do you think?

A: Coaching is not just theory. It is important to enroll in a comprehensive coaching program that covers everything from how to enroll your clients to how to work with somebody over time to create lasting change in their life. Don’t go cheap and choose a short program or an online program that does not provide you enough tools to be successful in the field and this is a competitive field.

Q: What is your advice for somebody looking for career opportunities in the coaching or personal development field?

A: Get training from a good coaching company, choose a company who you love their mission and can align with it, it may open all kinds of doors for you. Surround yourself with coaches who are successful in the field.

Q: What is the difference between coaching and personal development companies?

A: Lots of coaching companies sell coaching contracts to corporations and they don’t necessarily do coach training programs. Some training companies just teach personal development and they don’t coach.

Q: What would be a sales pitch for your company?

A: Sharing our Mission statement: We believe coaching can change the world. How? Through you. Our  mission is to help you become the kind of inner directed, highly skilled coaches and leaders who achieve their most audacious dreams and go on to create positive change in their lives, businesses, communities and the world at large.  Those called to that mission is who we love to have in our training room.

Q: Tell me about the books that you are working on?

A: I am about to complete my first book ‘Pathway to Coaching Mastery’ which will be published late Spring and my second book is on personal life story.  I plan publish my personal story book in early 2016.
